The Ontario Soccer Centre kicked off a new program this week.
Walking Soccer, already being embraced by clubs in Ontario, allows those who have been life-long lovers of the sport with the ability to continue playing the game they love.
The rules are the same, with the one caveat: that you cannot move faster than a walking pace.
"It’s a fantastic way to introduce people of all ages, genders, ethnicities, and abilities to the game of soccer, but at a pace that allows people to enjoy themselves," said Mike Giona, General Manager of the Ontario Soccer Centre. "Whether you are a former player or brand new to the game, Walking Soccer allows you to participate in a team sport, have a lot of fun, and is a low impact way to exercise."
Ontario Soccer staff participated in a game recently and the feedback was fantastic.
"Staff noted that it was a great exercise, very engaging, and it allowed everyone to participate. There was a lot of interaction among all players, and it provided a social aspect that isn’t normally present during an actual game," said Giona. "There was definitely a 'fun' factor to the game."
Walking Soccer games will take place at the Ontario Soccer Centre Tuesday's from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the cost is $5 a session and there is no need to pre-register.
