Ontario Soccer is thrilled by the establishment of AFC Toronto – one of six new teams brought together by Project 8 - and Southern Ontario’s first-ever women’s professional soccer club.

The Club puts a new spin on the term “AFC,” which in the world of soccer traditionally stands for “Association Football Club.” For AFC Toronto, the acronym takes on a deeper meaning: “Always For: Commitment, Change, Courage and Celebration.” This thoughtful name underscores the team’s mission to make a difference and leave the sport of soccer better than they found it.

AFC Toronto has now released its official crest and colours. Read more about their brand identity in the press release below:

Come 2025, AFC Toronto will make its debut as part of the Northern Super League (NSL) - Canada’s new professional women’s soccer league. This historic development will provide a beacon of opportunity and celebration for women and girls in soccer nationwide.

AFC Toronto will help level the playing field by creating more professional pathways for Canadian women and girls in soccer. Recognizing that Ontario’s Youth Clubs and programs such as the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL) and League1 Ontario will serve as the breeding ground for their future talent, AFC Toronto has promised to keep the grassroots game at the forefront of everything they do – all while striving to create a space where everyone feels valued and included.

Representing the Greater Toronto Area including the City of Toronto and the municipalities of York, Durham, Peel and Halton, AFC Toronto is being launched by a powerful, women-led group with diverse experience in local business, sports and community leadership.

Ontario Soccer is eager to support AFC Toronto as well as the Ottawa NSL team (which has yet to be announced). We understand just how much this means to the soccer community – particularly girls and women in the past, present and future of the game.
