The application window for the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL) Athlete Scholarship Program is now officially open, providing an excellent opportunity for eligible full-time players to access concentrated funding and support.
This year, up to $100,000 will be distributed to OPDL families in grants ranging from $500 to $1500.
The OPDL Athlete Scholarship Program is designed to assist talented players within the OPDL community who demonstrate significant potential in their playing abilities.
Established in 2014, this program has been a source of financial aid for aspiring soccer stars, aiding in their development and pursuit of excellence on the field by easing some of the financial burden associated with high-performance programs like the OPDL. Since its inception, the Athlete Scholarship Program has awarded over $820,000 in grants to deserving players and families.
How to Apply:
Applications for the OPDL Athlete Scholarship must be submitted by OPDL License Holders on behalf of interested families within their program. Please be advised that any applications submitted directly by parents or guardians will not be reviewed.
To streamline the application process, ensure you have the following documents ready:
- OPDL Commitment Letter
- Gross Income for Family
- 2023 Notice of Assessment
- OPDL Player Assessment
- Individual Development Plan
- Reference Letter (from each organization they volunteered with)
- Special Circumstances (if applicable)

If selected for the OPDL Athlete Scholarship program, applicants – both the clubs and the families – will be notified at the conclusion of the OPDL Mid-Season Break. Funds are sent directly to the OPDL Licence Holder, who then passes on the allocated amount to the recipient family.
