The Soccer in Schools project, a new initiative by Canada Soccer, will see community Clubs across Ontario and Saskatchewan collaborate with local public schools to promote greater inclusion in soccer and provide opportunities to children who may not otherwise be participating in organized sports.

With $400,000 in funding to be spread across 100 organizations in the two provinces, dozens of Ontario Clubs will benefit from this program and be empowered to connect with even more kids in their community through in-school programming.

“As a goal, Canada Soccer envisions a country where every child can access quality sport and recreation in a safe, fun, and welcoming environment,” said Canada Soccer President Charmaine Crooks. “In partnership with local organisations, Canada Soccer recognises the integral role that the public school system can play in support of this goal.”

Each Club selected for this opportunity must partner with at least five schools, prioritizing those in lower-income neighbourhoods and/or with a higher percentage of new to Canada students.

Recognizing soccer as the world's most popular and widely-accessible team sport, Canada Soccer emphasizes its simplicity, minimal equipment requirements, and universal appeal to people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Beyond the joy of playing, participating in soccer comes with an array of physical, mental, and social benefits.

The Soccer in Schools project is backed by the Government of Canada’s Community Sport for All initiative with the support of the Ministry of Sport and Physical Activity. Piloting in 2024 in Ontario and Saskatchewan, Canada Soccer intends to expand the project to include more provinces and territories in the coming years.

Ontario Soccer, being a focal point of this initiative, invites community clubs to apply for the Soccer in Schools program before March 18, 2024. Eligible organizations must be members of Ontario Soccer or Saskatchewan Soccer, holding a Canada Soccer Club License or be in the process of obtaining one.
