The last match of the 2024 Ontario Indoor Cup Finals on Sunday was the U18 Boys championship, where Cherry Beach (CB) Toronto Monarchs beat SBFC Burlington 4-0 in a dramatic showdown at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre.
The first half of the match was scoreless, but not from lack of trying. The attempts started within the first minute of play and neither team let up.
Juers Hysesani was the first to try for CB Toronto Monarchs, but SBFC keeper Joseph Sepe met that with his first of many big saves.
SBFC’s Xavier Sepe was quick to respond, trying for a breakaway goal at the start of the second minute, but CB Toronto Monarch’s goalie Luca Ineichen was equally prepared, denying the shot and taking possession of the ball before anyone else could. Sepe took another few shots in the third minute from distance, but any ball that threatened to get by Ineichen was deflected.
Both keepers were tested time-and-time again throughout the half. Perhaps the biggest save of the match was in the 24th minute when CB Toronto Monarchs’ Donail Drentchev charged towards the net, passing to Damiano Totten for the shot. Sepe saw the play coming, however, and blocked the shot.
In the second half, CB Toronto Monarchs finally got on the board with a 30th minute opening goal by Totten. He and Drenthcev teamed up on the offensive play, both making a few touches, but it was Tottem that got the first ball past Sepe.
That was first of what would be many goals for CB Toronto Monarchs. In the 35th minute, Totten went back for his second goal of the match after a down-field pass from James Bowman. Their third goal came in the 44th minute with a penalty kick from Drentchev. Amir Adbuvaitov scored the fourth and final goal for CB Toronto Monarchs in the 47th minute off a pass from Totten.
