Sunday’s opening match at the 2024 Ontario Indoor Cup Finals Presented by Sport Chek saw Glen Shields Juventus and KO|Football Academy square off for the U13 Boys title. It was a thrilling faceoff from start to finish with plenty of end-to-end action, but it was Glen Shields that came out victorious, winning the match 2-1.
Miguel Da Silva from KO|Football Academy opened the scoring with a goal in the fourth minute when a loose ball from a corner kick fell to him which she blasted into the top corner. Despite giving his team an early lead, Da Silva’s would be KO’s only successful scoring attempt for the match.
Glen Shields responded quickly with a breakaway goal from Timur Kadirov in the 11th minute, tying the score. The momentum continued in Glen Shields’ favour with a 15th minute goal from Elisha Kouadio, who skillfully popped a left-footer over the opposing goalkeeper and into the net.
KO|Football Academy had a great chance to even the score with just a few moments left in the first half, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity. They went into halftime having taken six shots, with three on target, compared to Glen Shields’ total of 10 shots fired, all finding their mark.
Despite both teams revving up the offensive intensity in the second half, the score remained the same for the remainder of the match. Key figures were the goalkeepers on both sides – Mason Ly for Glen Shields and Nicholas Calcagno for KO|Football Academy – both making some outstanding saves that played a crucial role in preserving the scoreline.
