The U14 Boys Final at the 2024 Ontario Indoor Cup Presented by Sport Chek saw Greater Sudbury SC Impact take on Glen Shields Juventus FC for the division title mid-day Sunday at the newly named Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre. Glen Shields maintained their early lead throughout the entirety of the game, finishing with a final score of 5-1.

Glen Shields kept possession of the ball for most of the first half, consistently challenging Sudbury’s goalkeeper Brendan Goffin with tricky shots. The first scoring attempt came from Glen Shields’ Francesco Bruno in the third minute, which was met with the first of many great saves by Goffin.

Bruno persisted, making another attempt at the start of the eigth minute that was initially blocked by Goffin. However, Bruno capitalized on the rebound, passing to Nico Prete, who successfully tapped the ball into the net to open the scoring.

The 13th minute witnesses a repeat performance, as Bruno tore down the pitch, this time making the pass to Momchil Hariskov. Hariskov made a quick decision, sending the ball over to Prete who was positioned in front of the net and once again able to put the ball in the back of the net.

More trouble came for Sudbury in the 20th minute when Goffin was removed from the game due to a bloody lip. With no backup goalkeeper on the bench, outfielder Mohammed Najem was forced to step in for Goffin and did so for the rest of the match. Glen Shields’ Ryan Turkman took advantage of the opportunity, extending Glen Shields’ lead to 3-0 just before halftime.

Sudbury brought more heat at the start of the second half with Samuel Lazare scoring the team’s first goal in the 34th minute of action. Angelo Kalonji also set up a few nice plays and created some solid attempts for Sudbury, but couldn’t manage to get the ball into the net.

For Glen Shields, Turkman scored his second goal of the match when he snuck another shot past Najem in the 40th minute. Scoring his goal right in the nick of time. Bruno capped off the victory in the 50th minute, bringing the score to 5-1 just before the full-time whistle.
