Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce the rosters for the 2023 Ontario Provincial Xcel Teams.
Provincial Xcel team selections take place over the course of a calendar year, where players are identified through the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL), or through Talent on Location Days for players who are not enrolled in the talented pathway.
“We’re proud of the talent that continues to come through Ontario Soccer's membership as we all work to provide opportunities for these players to progress to higher levels of the game,” said Matt Ferreira, Director of Development. “With many of the players on both the Men’s and Women's National Teams hailing from Ontario, the incentive for our players to be part of the Talented Player Pathway continues to grow.”
The Boys U14 and U16 team will both take on Toronto FC Academy in a two game series April 22 and 23 at BMO Training Ground. The Girls U14 team will play an all-star series with the best players in the province kicking off on April 29 and 30 while the Girls U16 team will compete against the Girls National Development Centre NextGen at the Ontario Soccer Centre.
The selected players for the Boys and Girls U15 and U17 teams will participate in a showcase series against the Quebec Provincial Teams in Laval, Quebec, from May 19 to May 21.
“These competitions, against the National Development Centre and Toronto FC Academy, serve as another opportunity for Ontario Soccer to benchmark our players against those already tracking for Canada's National Excel programs,” said Bryan Rosenfeld, Senior Manage of Soccer Development and Provincial Xcel. “Congratulations to the players selected, as well as the Ontario Soccer member Clubs who helped develop these athletes. Your commitment to the game continues to drive our development forward.”
