Sunday’s final match at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre brought about an intense face-off between Mississauga Prostars FC 2008 Blue and Toronto Cherry Beach Red Wolves in the U16 Boys Finals. It was neck-in-neck until the final moments, when a last-minute goal from Prostars secured them the 2024 Ontario Indoor Cup title. 

Both teams remained scoreless through the entire first half of the match, despite both sides having some decent chances to get on the scoreboard.  

The first big attempt came from Prostar's Arbi Zoto in the seventh minute, but Cherry Beach goalkeeper John Kanellos made the save. Prostars’ Lucas Ferreira would have had another chance in the eigth minute, but once again Kanellos was there for the save. In the 10th minute, Ferreira tried again but his shot was just wide of the right post. 

Cherry Beach had some good opportunities to score in the 12th and 14th minute, but their best chances of the half came later on from Raphael David and Stavros Tsagarelis. Prostars’ goakkeeper Cristiano Pereira protected the net well despite several challenging attempts from the opposing side. 

Prostars was the first side to score in the 34th minute with an impressive play by Caden Brennan and Joshua Monge Calvo. Despite being surrounded by Cherry Beach defenders, Brennan made a pass directly to Monge Calvo who finally scored the opening goal of the match. 

In the 45th minute Cherry Beach decided it was time to fight back, tying the score with a goal from Elliot Nauboris. Nauboris carried the ball a long way, dancing through a few defenders, before finishing low on the far side. 

With the scoreboard now at 1-1, it looked as though the match would end in a shootout. However, Prostars’ secured the game winning goal in added time. Dynamic duo Monge Calvo and Brennan executed the attack once again as Monge Calvo fed  Brennan a perfect through pass, who buried the game winner.
