Player Development Pilot Projects

Innovating the Game: Testing New Ideas for the Future of Player Development

Pilot projects are a key initiative of Ontario Soccer, designed to explore innovative approaches to advancing player development at all levels. These projects allow us to test and evaluate new ideas in real-world settings, fostering continuous improvement in training methods, match formats, and player experiences. Through a structured, evidence-based process, Ontario Soccer ensures that pilot projects generate meaningful data and insights, enabling informed decision-making. By collaborating with districts, clubs and stakeholders, we are committed to creating development pathways that prioritize player growth, enjoyment, and long-term success in the game.

Ontario Soccer's Pilot Project Program is designed to explore and evaluate innovative match formats and festival structures that align with our long-term player development (LTPD) principles. By running sanctioned pilot projects, Ontario Soccer aims to:

  • Test new match formats, rules, or event structures that promote skill development, player enjoyment, and inclusivity.
  • Gather insights through district and club-led events to assess the effectiveness of adaptations in real-world environments.
  • Create evidence-based recommendations to refine Grassroots and Soccer for Life programs and enhance the player experience.
  • Foster collaboration between clubs, districts, and Ontario Soccer in driving the future of the game.
  • These pilot projects are critical in ensuring that Ontario Soccer remains a leader in innovative and player-centered approaches, helping players of all ages and abilities reach their potential.
