Match Official Award - Mike Bremer Award: Peter Kalpouzos

In 1978 Peter Kalpouzos began his journey in soccer as a player in the Toronto & District Soccer League where he would spend over 10 years as player, taking the 1981 year to play for the Panhellenic Reserve Team.  Peter carried his love for the game to his career with York Regional Police, playing for their team from 1990 to 2000.  Peter also assisted the York Regional Police with their involvement in the Special Olympics and with their Match Official assignments.

After an injury and rehabilitation, Peter transferred his commitment to soccer to the Match Official contingent, starting as a District Referee for the Toronto Soccer Association in 1997.  Two years later, Peter moved his soccer activity to where he worked, and continued his District Match Official activity with the York Region Soccer Association until the year 2000.

Norm Offield was the York Region DRC in the early 2000s and encouraged Peter to continue his development as a Match Official.  From 2000-2002 Peter officiated at the Regional Referee level and from 2002 to 2008 Peter rose to the Provincial Referee level where he officiated in the Women’s Professional League, and Ontario Cup Finals. It took five years for Peter to accomplish his ascent to the Provincial match official level.

In 2008 Peter wanted to contribute to the development of younger Match Officials and became a District Referee Assessor in York Region.  Progressing to assist up and coming Match Officials at the next level, Peter moved to the Regional Assessor level in 2010 and a final move up to the Provincial Assessor level from 2013 where he is still actively assessing and supporting Match Official development today.   Peter contributes to the development of League 1O Match Officials in their 4th Official Mentorship Program.

Peter was appointed by the YRSA Board of Directors to the position of District Referee Coordinator for York Region from 2016 where he still serves in that role today offering education and mentorship for the match officials in that district.  In addition to this work, Peter also serves as Discipline Case Manager in his ongoing support of the game of soccer in Ontario.
