Meritorious Award - Ed Whitehead

Ed Whitehead has been a long-time member, coach and board member of the Pickering Football Club. His expertise as a coach includes proven leadership and mentoring to get the best out of young teams, attracting many players to the club because of his reputation and organisation with both the players and parents, as well as organizing a wide range of travel tournaments across Canada for his teams to compete in.

Ed was also the long-time leader of the very popular Pickering FC Summer Soccer Camp before handing over the reins to his son, Adam.  In recent years he has added even more value to the Pickering Football Club through his leadership first as Vice President (2017-2020) and then as President (2020-Current). While Ed has been retired for quite some time, he would tell you he is busier than ever right now. Ed shines in this role, using the skills learned during his professional career, while he supports club staff and volunteers.

During the pandemic Pickering FC worked hard to keep the players and their families engaged. They were hopeful that coming out of the pandemic they would be stronger than ever. However, the January 2022 blizzard hit southern Ontario hard and brought their dome down to the ground.  Ed really showed his abilities and commitment to the Club at this time. While staff were stretched to deal with the damaged dome, contractors, and the rescheduling of their club programs to other venues across the City, it was through regular meetings with the Club Board that Ed provided in depth analysis in a variety of areas and guided them as President.

Ed has spent countless hours behind the scenes. Not only has he been supporting Pickering FC but, he has also been engaged with and supported the District in a number of different areas.

The Durham Region Soccer Association, nominated Ed Whitehead for the Meritorious Award recognizing everything he has done for both his Club and the District.
