Club Recognition Award - Guelph Soccer

Guelph Soccer is a prime example of a full service club doing whatever it takes to include all and positively influence the community. The Club has been recognized for its successes over the last few year as an awardee of the Southwest Soccer Administration Award in 2016, 2017, and 2019, and the Community Partners Award from the Guelph Police Services in 2019.

Guelph Soccer’s programming meets all aspects of this award and is demonstrated through the Club’s current programming and partnerships within the community.  Guelph Soccer is involved with the Chance to Play initiative which collects gently used and new soccer uniforms, trophies, coaches’ equipment, and balls. This equipment is distributed to countries all over the world.  Guelph Soccer jerseys travelled all the way to Guatemala!

Guelph Soccer is proud to once again partner with the Children's Foundation and their Free to Grow Program.  The objective of this partnership is to remove the financial barriers in order for all youth to participate in soccer and to maximize their soccer playing opportunities for youth in our community. It provides financial assistance for children in need so they can participate in recreational and life-skill development activities.

Guelph Soccer has been a proud partner of the Kickz program in Guelph since it's inception.

The vision of the project is "To create safer, stronger, more respectful communities through the

development of young people's potential".  Kickz is a healthy after school program for youth from certain neighbourhoods in Guelph. These particular communities have higher number of residents who are new to Canada and many members that face greater socioeconomic challenges. Guelph Police Service members volunteer as coaches which allows youth to see police in social setting outside of police uniform and helps to develop trust and a strong and positive relationship.  The Club has had over 700 participants to date. High school youth from the neighbourhood act as mentors during the program.

Guelph Soccer’s latest initiative, called She’s Got Game - She Can Coach, is a federal government funded project with the goal of ensuring more women and girls are able to enjoy the benefits of soccer by addressing the current challenges that they face relating to participation. Female sport leaders play a critical role in creating a welcoming and safe space for girls in sport. This project strives to support and advance gender equality in sport by breaking down the barriers of entry for women to coach, with the hope that this will increase female registration.

Guelph Soccer is proud to announce that it has partnered with Guelph Wellington Special Olympics to merge the existing programs. Guelph Soccer’s program, previously named ‘Kids Adapted’, and Special Olympics Ontario program called ‘Special Olympics Football Club’, have merged to form the newly named Guelph Special Olympics Soccer.  This new blended program will offer year-round soccer opportunities for people living with developmental and intellectual disabilities of all ages.
