Having enjoyed a bout of grassroots soccer during her younger years in Eganville, Kaya returned to the beautiful game during her time at Opeongo High School between 2017 and 2021.
Parlaying her love for soccer into both on-field involvement and off-field success, she was able lead her team to victory in the end of season tournament in the Renfrew County league in 2019. At the same time, she also kick-started her match official career and has refereed minor soccer for both Opeongo Minor Soccer and Pembroke Minor Soccer since 2018.
Academically, her work ethic and excellent time-management skills saw her as recipient of the Grade 9,10,11,12 Renfrew County Medallions, as well as an Ontario Scholar Award.
Being multi-talented and versatile Kaya has gained valuable work experience in a variety of settings including working as an administrative assistance at a health clinic, co-op placement at an athletic therapy clinic and a nursing home student.
As a community-minded future leader, Kaya has also repeatedly supported the town’s fire department with fundraising events like boot drives and pancake breakfasts learning the value and satisfaction of supporting the community and giving back to others.
As of this fall semester, Kaya is attending York University’s program for Kinesiology and Health Science. She is intent on applying for the Athletic Therapy Certification Program at York University and pursuing a career in athletic therapy
