Jason Olinski’s journey as a referee began in 2007 when he took his entry level course in Guelph. A product of Fergus Elora District Soccer (FEDS), Jason decided that the pressures of goalkeeping were too much and decided to take up the whistle instead. His talent as a match official was quickly identified and he made his own opportunities by virtue of his dedication and commitment within the Southwest and then into the Eastern Ontario area.
He was an active member of the previous Advanced Referee Training Program and is currently a member of the Canada Soccer NextGen Program. Jason had been a key member of the League1 Ontario Match Officials Panel since its inception and is also regularly assigned to Canadian Premier League games as an Assistant Referee.
Jason currently resides in Ottawa, and has been a keen contributor to the positive environment that exists there for match officials of all ages and grades. Jason along with his colleague Sean Hornsby have been instrumental in developing a referee prospects programme in the EODSA. Jason is a great pillar to support and enthuse young prospects. His ability to explain refereeing concepts in a simple and comprehensive manner while motivating and encouraging the use of correct considerations is exceptional. In addition, he plans and leads on field sessions that enable officials to learn while doing. His prior experience in the Ontario Soccer ART program and attendance at multiple Canada Soccer camps enables Jason to pass on to young referees the best practises both in class and on field.
Jason is also a certified Instructor and Mentor. Good natured, always approachable and willing to give back, Jason has always led by example throughout his journey as a match official.
Jason Olinski was nominated by the Match Officials Development Committee.
