Soccer Fitness Trainer Diploma Level 2

2019 Course Dates

Starts November 12th, 2019


This is a Diploma course produced by Ontario Soccer, as a second level to the Diploma Course Level 1, that combines theoretical and practical components of Soccer Fitness Training.

What do you learn?

Course components will touch upon of the following:

  • Anatomy, physiology and biomechanics for soccer
  • Fitness assessments
  • Periodization of training
  • Monitoring training and games using technology
  • Position-specific aerobic and anaerobic training
  • The role of a fitness coach

What are the course pre-requisites?

Prior to applying to the Soccer Fitness Trainers Diploma Level 2 course, a coach must have completed the Level 1 Course, and provide proof of successfully taking ONE of the following:

  • Learn to Train, Soccer for Life, C License or B License and Make Ethical Decisions, Respect in Sport, and Making Head Way in Soccer.

Coaches must provide the required documentation in their Application that can be completed on Coach Centre. Once the coach’s application has been approved they will then be granted access to register for the course.

Pre-Course Webinar #1: Tuesday November 12th: Introduction: 12-1pm (1 hour)

Pre-Course Webinar #2: Thursday November 14th: Soccer Anatomy: 12-2pm (2 hours)

Live Weekend: Day 1: Saturday November 16th:

  • 10am-11:30am: Soccer Physiology (classroom)
  • 11:30am-12:30pm: Soccer Biomechanics (classroom)
  • 12:30pm-1:30pm: Lunch
  • 1:30pm-2:30pm: Using Technology to Monitor Training/Game Load (classroom)
  • 2:30-4:00pm: Advanced Aerobic and Anaerobic Energy System Training Theory (classroom)
  • 4-6pm: Advanced Aerobic and Anaerobic Energy System Training Practical (field)

In-Course Webinar: Tuesday November 19th: Advanced Periodization of Training: 12-2pm (2 hours)

Assignment #1: (After Tuesday November 19th, DUE Saturday December 14th)

  • Create a 1-week Microcycle for your team during an assigned phase of training

Live Weekend: Day 2: December 14th

  • 10-10:30am: Review of Monitoring Data from November 16th Session (classroom)
  • 10:30am-12pm: Soccer Nutrition (classroom)
  • 12-1pm: Case Studies: Challenges of a Fitness Coach (classroom)
  • 1-2pm: Lunch
  • 2-3pm: Review of Candidates’ Periodization of Training 1-Week Microcycles (classroom)
  • 3-4pm: Candidates’ Planning of Practical Sessions
  • 4-6pm: Candidates’ Practical Sessions (from Assignment #1) with Feedback (field)

Assignment #2: (After Saturday December 14th, DUE by February 28th, 2020)

  • Create a 1-month Macrocycle, comprising four, 1-week Microcycles, for your team during an assigned phase of training
  • Video record and submit 1 training session that was included in the Macrocycle

How to apply?

Coaches create an account on Coach Centre if they do not already have an existing account. Applications will only be accepted via E2E Coach Centre. Coach Centre will send an automated email to the coach stating that the application has been submitted.

When does the next course begin?

November 12th.
