Drama unfolds on Day 3 of the 2018 Canada Soccer Toyota National Championships

All Ontario teams in medal contention heading into Day 4

The 2018 Toyota National Championships reached fever pitch on Day 3 with late game heroics, penalty drama and much more clarity as the march to Teck Finals Day continues. 

Girls U-17 Cup entrant, Nova Scotia’s Suburban FC, came from behind to win on a stunning last-minute free kick, bar down goal to win their group. In Challenge Trophy action, recent champions clashed as reigning Champions Western Halifax FC fell to 2017 Champions Edmonton Scottish in an epic battle. 

The relegation round begins on Day 4 for some teams, while, in the Gold Medal brackets a new competition emerges as teams must win their remaining matches to earn Gold Medals in each of the youth competitions. 

With the Jubilee Trophy on a break for Day 3, the Challenge Trophy competition is heating up. Group A and B winners will face off on Teck Finals Day in the Gold Medal match, 8 October. Ontario put themselves in a good position atop Group B with a 2:0 victory over Holy Cross and are now three points clear of Quebec. In Group A, the hometown Saskatoon Revolution sit on top after defeating New Brunswick 2:0.

U-17 Cup in Surrey, BC

Ontario and Quebec won their groups on both sides of the U-17 Cup in Surrey, BC. The seeding phase kicks off on Day 4 with teams pushing for a place in the Gold Medal match on Teck Finals Day on 8 October.

Ontario, Quebec and Manitoba earned full points in winning their groups on Day 3 at the Boys U-17 Cup. British Columbia also won Group D. In Girls U-17 Cup action, Quebec, Ontario and Nova Scotia each topped their respective groups with six points. BC won group D to move into the Gold Medal side of the seeding phase.

U-15 Cup in Laval, QC

Day 3 proved pivotal for teams looking to advance to the Gold Medal side of the seeding phase and matchups are now set across the U-15 Cup competition in Laval, QC. British Columbia, Alberta, and Quebec finished undefeated on the Girls side of the competition, while Quebec, Alberta, and Manitoba did so on the Boys side of the competition. 

AS Blainville, Edmonton Warriors, and Bonivital all won games on the Boys side of the U-15 Cup to capture first place in their group. Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, PEI and British Colubmia move into the relegation round. In Girls U-15 Cup action, Quebec, Ontario and Nova Scotia each topped their respective groups with six points. BC won group D to move into the Gold Medal side of the seeding phase.
