The U-15 Girls Ontario Cup final featured London Youth Whitecaps Academy and the Cumberland Cobras Elite at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan.

Both sides began the game cautiously and there was lots of middle field play as each battled for possession and looked for opportunities to break the other down.

It would take a special individual effort by London’s Jamie Lefebvre in the 24th minute to break the deadlock.

She would wind her way through a number of Cumberland defenders before deflecting her shot off a defender and into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

Both sides would trade chances but it wouldn’t until midway through the second half until the game opened up.

Cumberland would tie the game in the 62 minute when an Ameila Thompson shot fooled London’s keeper, Makayla Wilison, and found the back of the net, making it 1-1.

The goal would set off a flurry of chances as both sides looked to take the lead.

In the 75th minute, Cumberland would earn a penalty kick after Thompson was brought down in the box.

Ella Reilly would step up to the spot and calmly slot her shot into the net to make it 2-1 Cumberland.

Cumberland would close up their ranks and capture the U-15 Girls Ontario Cup title.

With the win, they now move on to the Toyota National Championships, held Oct. 3-8.
