Play. Inspire. Unite.

The Player Development department puts together practices for coaches to use with their players across the province.

Each week focuses on one of the three LTPD development stages at the Grassroots level, which includes Active Start, FUNdamentals, and Learn to Train.

In this week's session, the Player Development department has focused on the Learn to Train level.

The objective of this session is for players to be able to play a give and go pass.

Players will begin working on physical literacy by being placed into 4 teams of 3 - each playing in a different direction - with objective of going end-to-end with a great degree of interference throughout. After this, they will go into a 3v3 small sided game with opportunity to use the give & go freely.

From here, players will go in to a 4v4+4 scenario where they will be looking to combine with a neutral team before scoring. Players then finish off in a game that is as close to the rules and regulations as they play on game day as players then have the ultimate challenge of using this skill to be successful in a game.

The activities provided illustrate how stations can be used during Grassroots practices.

All sessions take a holistic approach to developing our youth. Each game and activity will focus on four main areas of the child's development; these include social/emotional, physical, psychological and also technical.

Total practice time: 45-70 minutes.
