Braces from Pais and Cerqua lead the way in Vaughan's 5-0 victory

Play. Inspire. Unite.

The Darlington Energy took on the Vaughan Azzurri in the U-18 Girls Ontario Cup Final Sunday at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

Vaughan defeated the Oakville Wild 3-0 in their semi-final on Saturday, while Darlington downed Waterloo 4-1 to advance.

The rainy weather was cause for some sloppy play early as the two teams struggled to find their feet. Vaughan would have a few chances for range early but weren’t able to convert their opportunities.

Leah Pais would open the scoring for Vaughan in the 26th minute when she was released by Alessia Da Silva’s pass and she made no mistake in finding the back of net.

Pais would have another chance just before the half with a free kick on the edge of the box but her shot was deflected harmlessly away by the wall and out for a corner.

The second half would begin much the same way as the first with the weather making the conditions challenging for both teams.

In the 55th minute, Vaughan’s Pais sprung Daniella Cerqua who was sent in alone. she clinically finished her chance into the lower corner to make it 2-0.

Cerqua would increase the Vaughan lead to 3-0 when she got on the end of a Tatiana Boutros cross.

A few moments later, Pais would seal it for Vaughan as her lone effort ended with a seeing eye shot into the corner to make it 4-0.

Olivia Lamacchia would put an exclamation point on the game when she made it 5-0 in extra time.

That would be the way it would end and Vaughan would capture the U-18 Girls Ontario Cup title.
