Sam Gevaux, Technical Assistant and OPDL Head Coach, speaks about how they've been preparing for their inaugural season

Play. Inspire. Unite.

The OPDL Spotlight Series, presented by Toronto FC, highlights stories, teams and initiatives from around the league.

This week features comments from Sam Gevaux, Technical Assistant and OPDL Head Coach for U-13.

This is the first year that Waterloo United will be an OPDL club.

There has been a tremendous amount of effort put in by all staff, both administrative and technical, to ensure that all standards are not only met but are exceeded on a regular basis.

The impact it has had on the club has been significant and all of Waterloo United programs have benefited from their inclusion within OPDL.

How has your preparation for your inaugural OPDLseason been?

Our preparation has been extensive and all of our great staff here at the club have gone above and beyond to ensure that we have our facilities, curriculum and clear roles and responsibilities set to maximize the experience that the players have.

What are you most excited about for your players, now that they are a part of the Talent, Development and Performance environment of the OPDL?

It is an extremely exciting period for Waterloo United and our players. Being a part of OPDL gives our current OPDL players and players within our Grassroots Development Program the opportunity to be a part of a structured high-performance setting.

They all undertake appropriate training sessions for their age/stage and take part in meaningful/challenging matches each week.

What do you hope to bring to the OPDL as a new License Holder?

I would hope that we would bring a level of professionalism in how we structure our curriculum not only for our current/future OPDL players but also for our Grassroots Development Program. We want to ensure that all our players currently within that program are offered high quality coaching, facilities and match day experiences.

How do you feel your Administrators, Match Officials and Technical Staff will benefit from their involvement in the OPDL?

The support, discussion and reflections we have with the staff within Ontario Soccer, allows us to reflect on our practice as a whole staff to ensure that we are creating and delivering programs that aid the holistic development of all of our players within the club.
