Play. Inspire. Unite.

The 2018 OASL season is ready for its first weekend of play! The second year of the two-year pilot project held by Ontario Soccer, in partnership with the Soccer Academy Alliance Canada (SAAC), will include private academies operating across the province.

The Tier 1 youth competitive U14-U17 will kick off with 20 of 35 academies taking to the pitch at two venues, Bishop Reding Catholic Secondary School (BRS) and Markham Sports Dome (MSD). Both venues will be packed with action all weekend long!

Youth competitive female divisions will kick off the following weekend on April 28 along with Tier 1 U13. Tier 1 U9-U12 & all Tier 2 will kick off May 5 & 6.

Tier 1 academies are split into two seasons, spring and fall, and will have the opportunity to participate in a mid-season tournament, while Tier 2 will play through to the fall.

“Ontario Soccer is proud to see more private academies joining this strategic piloted initiative,” said Gary Miller, Ontario Soccer Technical Director. “In working with the Soccer Academy Alliance Canada, the OASL continues to build on what began in 2017 and will continue to work to align these academies into our organizational pathway.”

The OASL will feature 45 private academies in 2018. This strategic initiative was designed to implement an Academy soccer stream, made up of private academies, which can be aligned with Ontario Soccer’s player development pathway.

The pilot project will be evaluated by a third party and a recommendation will be brought to the Board of Directors for 2019 onwards.

The OASL follows Ontario Soccer’s principles of Long Term Player Development (LTPD).
