Two Ontario Player Development League teams have qualified for the Gatorade 5v5 Challenge Global finals.
The North Toronto Soccer Club U-15 Boys and West Ottawa Soccer Club U-15 Girls won their respective competitions over the weekend and, as well as receiving a Gatorade Sweat Test, they will now travel to Barcelona as the Canadian representatives in the Global Final.
The Gatorade 5v5 challenge, which puts the emphasis on the social aspect of player development, included activities designed to promote player engagement and socialization.
"The Gatorade 5v5 Challenge provided the OPDL players the opportunity to enjoy a fun, safe and entertaining soccer environment, ahead of what will be a very demanding season for these athletes,” said Gabriel Assis, Ontario Soccer Manager of the Player Development Program. “Congratulations to the winners and we wish them the best as they move on and represent the OPDL, the province and Canada in the global finals in Barcelona.”
Additionally, throughout the two day event, Gatorade provided education on proper hydration necessary for athletes.
A TSN television crew was also on hand to capture the action and will release a video on the day at a later date.
“This fantastic event, put on by our OPDL partner Gatorade, gives our athletes a challenging, fun environment where they get the opportunity to test their skills against some of the best in the world,” said Khanh Be, Ontario Soccer Manager of Marketing and Partnerships.
Gatorade provides hydration stations at OPDL centralized venues on game days. It is also provides OPDL License Holders with product for training and coach education across the league
