Brampton Brams United Bandits edge Markham Lightning in U-18 Girls Ontario Indoor Cup final

Melody Mezzina was the difference in net for Brampton as they downed their opponents 2-0

The U-18 Girls Ontario Indoor Cup would feature the Markham Lightning take on the Brampton Brams United Bandits.

Both sides started slow, opting to spread the play and test out one another’s ability through the middle.

After plenty of hard tackles, the game’s opening goal came in the 14th minute.

Brampton Brams’ Makaela Williams received the ball on the edge of the box, turned away from goal and her shot found the far side of the net, making it 1-0.

Both sides would once again slow the pace down and look to counter-attack when there were opportunities.

The first half would end with Brampton leading 1-0.

The second half would restart with the Lightning pressing for the equalizer.

Brampton’s keeper Melody Mezzina was forced into make several spectacular stops to keep her team in the lead.

Williams would double the lead for Brampton with ten minutes remaining. Her second goal of the day would make it 2-0 as she calmly tapped in a loose ball.  

Mezzina would make another sparkling save in the final minute to retain her shutout and ensure Brampton captured the U-18 Girls Ontario Indoor Cup title.
