CAQ took their opportunities, downing the Woodbridge Strikers 3-1

Play. Inspire. Unite.

The U-13 Boys Ontario Cup Final featured North York CAF - CAQ Soccer taking on Woodbridge Strikers in an entertaining affair between two talented teams.

CAF – CAQ would get things going early in the 11th minute of play. After several successive corners, Woodbridge were unable to clear their line and Narindra Lamay pounced on a loose ball in the box and gave his side a 1-0 lead.

Moments later Andrew Clausen was hauled down in the box by the Woodbridge keeper resulting in a penalty. Kabir Chahal would make good on the ensuing opportunity from the spot, giving CAF – CAQ a 2-0 lead in the 14th minute.

Just when it looked like Woodbridge would go into the half trailing 2-0, Julian Di Carlantonio came on to the field and hammered a strike from well outside the 18-yard-box, which would find the back of the net to make it 2-1.

Woodbridge carried the momentum into the second half and had several chances after the restart.

Chan Ghumann's second half penalty save kept CAF - CAQ in the lead

It would be CAF – CAQ who would find the breakthrough though. Sajjan Gill would make his way down the wing for the team from North York. His cross into the box was mishandled by a Woodbridge defender and it resulted in an own goal, putting CAF up 3-1.

In the 64th minute, it was CAF’s turn to give up a penalty when a handball was called against them. Woodbridge’s Matthew Plaath stepped up to take the penalty for his team but it was Chan Ghumann coming up big for CAF, making the save and preserving their two-goal lead.

Woodbridge would continue to press, looking for a way back into the game.

But between the strong goalkeeping of Ghumann and a confident CAF backline, they were able to shut the door the rest of the way as CAF – CAQ captured the U-13 Boys Ontario Cup title.
