Winning an unparalleled fifth straight title, they now advance to the National Championships

Play. Inspire. Unite.

The Women's Ontario Cup Final between Scarborough GS United and Durham United – two offensive juggernauts - didn’t waste any time getting going.

In the first minute of the game, GS United’s Shannen Jainudeen received the ball on the edge of the box and her shot found the corner of the Durham net to make it 1-0 for the team from Scarborough.

Both teams would trade chances for the remainder of the half but with neither side willing to commit their full resources forward it was a stalemate until the 44th minute.

With the halftime whistle mere moments away, GS United increased their lead when a Gisenia Utreras’ strike found the top corner to make it 2-0 for the defending champions heading into the break.

Durham would pull one back in the second half after some good work from Laura Gosse. Her cross into the box found the head of Bianca Rossi and her flick on found the back of the net to make it 2-1.

GS United would respond right back however when Taijah Henderson found her way into the box and her pass across the face of goal found a wide-open Shana Flynn who calmly restored their lead to 3-1.

That would be all they would need though as Scarborough GS United captured the Women’s Ontario Cup, their fifth straight provincial title and a feat never previously matched by a Women’s squad.

They now advanced to the Toyota Canadian National Championships and will compete for the Jubilee Trophy in Surrey, B.C. kicking off on Oct. 4.
