The OPDL Spotlight Series, presented by Toronto FC, highlights stories, teams and initiatives from around the league.

This week features comments from Paulo Hurtado, an OPDL Head Coach with SC Toronto.

SC Toronto joined the OPDL family in 2016, with the help of their former Technical Director, the late Joe Nucifora setting a strong foundation.

The club had a successful first season ranked among the top of all OPDL clubs in standards.  Their second season has seen the addition of several qualified staff, on and off the field, which once again has their club ranked near the top.

How does your organization attract and foster talent?

SC Toronto builds its talent from within.

This is accomplished by developing a highly-ranked grassroots program and staffing the younger age groups with qualified coaches, all the while implementing the highest training standards.

Being a soccer club based in the heart of Toronto, field availability is a difficult at best.

With 20 years of organizational experience, SC Toronto has secured several premium locations in the city and the outskirts as well.

SC Toronto has learned early on that having qualified staff in place and sound technical backing, will allow discerning parents to make it home for their players.

How does your organization create the best environment to develop players in accordance with OPDL standards?

SC Toronto has enjoyed close to two seasons now near the top of OPDL when it comes to quality and standards.

Consistent in its high rankings, the club looks to improve on this in order to be the best of the best.

The 2018 season will see the addition of staff for several key roles.

This includes the administration side as well as additional qualified coaches on field to help usher in the new groups of OPDL players.

SC Toronto prides itself on meeting and in most cases exceeding the expectations of our members. The best is yet to come.

How are players/coaches/administrators/match officials motivated to achieve their best performance?

The majority of the coaches and some of the administrative staff, which make up the OPDL program at SC Toronto, have participated in soccer at its highest levels.

This type of experience, in addition to the technical quality of its coaches, allows SC Toronto to meet each of challenge that if faces.

Having created one of the most active and interactive social media programs, as well as pioneering things such as live broadcasting of its games at this level, SC Toronto delivers a challenging and dynamic OPDL program.  Our club manages to balance hard work and fun on most days.
