Ontario Soccer announced today that it has accepted nine new license holders for the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL) that will commence training and competition in 2018.

The new OPDL organizations, which received recent approval by the Board of Directors of Ontario Soccer for the 2018-2019 development cycle, were on hand at the Ontario Soccer Centre to be formally introduced.

“Meeting the requirements to participate in a standards-based league, such as OPDL, is no small task and so I would like to congratulate the organizations who became league members here today,” said Johnny Misley, Ontario Soccer Executive Director. “These organizations were selected strategically, from around the province, to ensure Ontario Soccer continues to provide high performance opportunities for as many communities as possible.”

The new OPDL license holders for 2018-2019 are:

  • Brampton Youth
  • Cambridge Youth SC
  • Cumberland SC
  • FC London Academy
  • Tecumseh SC
  • Toronto High Park FC
  • Waterloo Minor SC
  • Whitecaps London
  • Woodbridge SC

Ontario Soccer will now begin the work of bringing the license holders on board for the 2018 season. This on-boarding includes workshops for the new organizations on everything from technical aspects to marketing.

“The OPDL sets itself apart in the high-performance capacity by taking a holistic look at what an organization needs to do to perform in that space,” said Gary Miller, Technical Director. “Everything from coaching to match officials, from players to parents, is looked at for OPDL and best practices and guidance are given to our license holders.”
