Early-season League1 Ontario leaders beginning to emerge

Unbeaten records were extended or ended during League1 Matchweek Four

A number of teams emerged as clear early-season leaders during League1 Ontario Matchweek Four.

In the men's league, Sigma FC won their fourth match in a row and went first of the west division after defeating the resurgent Sanjaxx Lions 6-1, while Woodbridge Strikers won their fourth game by a single goal to go top of the east division.

On the women's side, Unionville Milliken has assumed first position in just their first season in the league after beating the 2015 champions Durham United. It was a story of Canadian youth internationals, current and former, as Canada U17 midfielder Samantha Chang and former U17 international Madeline Iozzi scored for either side.

Toronto Azzurri Blizzard demonstrated their quality as well in just their first season in the women's division, taking down defending champions FC London at the German Canadian Club in London. This marked the first match that the London women had lost at home, since joining League1 in 2016. 

West Ottawa Soccer Club - yet another League1 women's debutante - registered their first win as well, beating Aurora FC 3-1, while crosstown men's counterpart - Ottawa South United - lost their first match of their initial League1 campaign after a 4-0 result by Durham United FA.

Vaughan Azzurri - the reigning men's League1 title-holders - also tasted defeat and slid to mid-table after North Toronto Nitros toppled the champions at the home of their affiliate, University of Toronto.  

Men's Division

OSU Force dropped their first points of 2017 to Durham United FA after a 4-0 result went against them. University of Vermont midfielder Stefan Lamanna led the victors with a brace. Click here to read the match report, watch video and find photos.

TFC III beat North Mississauga Panthers by a score of 2-1. Head coach Danny Dichio said it was the "worst performance of the year" by the Junior Reds. Click here to read the match report, watch video and find photos.

Windsor TFC battled the elements and Pro Stars FC, but emerged victorious after a 4-0 final. Click here to read the match report, watch video and find photos.

Woodbridge Strikers continued their trend of scoring one more goal than the opposition after a 2-1 defeat of Toronto Skillz, and went top of the east division. Click here to read the match report, watch video and find photos.

Sigma FC continued their trend as well, in this case scoring multiple goals and allowing few. Sigma took over first place in the west after a convincing 6-1 defeat of Sanjaxx Lions. Click here to read the match report, watch video and find photos.

North Toronto Nitros handed 2016 League1 champions Vaughan Azzurri their first loss of 2017 with a last minute goal from Varsity Blue Nikolay Saveliev at Varsity Stadium, University of Toronto. Click here to read the match report, watch video and find photos.

Women's Division - Presented by Peel Regional Police
