The OPDL Spotlight Series, presented by Toronto FC, highlights stories, teams and initiatives from around the league.

This week features Richmond Hill SC (RHSC) and comments from Ryan Gorewicz, their 2003 Girls Head Coach and Board Member.

RHSC has been a part of the OPDL since its inauguration and being involved in this program has had positive and significant impacts on their entire Club.

Involvement in this league has been able to improve their player pathway to provide a program for their talented elite players, and has also allowed them to self-reflect and improve upon their grassroots programming being delivered, while also giving them an opportunity to enhance their administrative and coaching standards.

An exciting new enhancement to their program is the appointment of Nadine Powell as High Performance Manager, as she will offer additional support, leadership and guidance to their players and coaches.

How does your organization attract and foster talent?

Our intent is to hopefully populate our OPDL programs with as many Richmond Hill players as possible.

This is why we place such a high importance on our grassroots programming, and have recently begun to place some of our highest qualified coaches with the U8-U12 groups.

However, we also recognize some players will join us from outside of Richmond Hill, and we welcome them too.

We are always happy meeting with potential players to our Club to show them our facilities, meet our performance development coaches, and show them some of the unique opportunities that our Club can offer.

How does your organization create the best environment to DEVELOP players in accordance with OPDL standards?

RHSC believes in the Long Term Player Development model, and our OPDL coaches are all advocates of it.

By ensuring that we put the development of players above results, coupled with our top-class facilities and administrative support, we believe that our players are set up for success.

Our Club works closely with Ontario Soccer and their staff to ensure that we abide by the OPDL standards, while also looking at ways that we can continually improve our training environments for players, coaches, officials, and match-day support.

How are players/coaches/administrators/match officials motivated to achieve their best PERFORMANCE?

One of the unique elements of RHSC’s OPDL program is how closely all of our groups work together.  Coaches, players, officials, and administrators all believe in our Club philosophy and mission, and learn and develop with one another.

Having a support staff of some of the highest-qualified administrators, coaches, coach educators, and match officials in the province allows us to ensure that our players are always in environments where they can grow and strive to perform at their best and achieve their goals.
