Teams Ontario shows strong in provincial team showdown

Provincial team plays programs from B.C. and La belle province


Team Ontario had a strong showing over the weekend as they took on provincial programs from Quebec and British Columbia.

The Ontario boys and girls U-14, U-15 and U-16 teams tested their skills Apr. 28 – Apr. 30 in Saint-Hubert Quebec in three days of competition.

National team and professional club scouts were in attendance.

Ontario finished the weekend with a combined record of five wins, 12 draws and four losses. 

The U-14 Boys went undefeated in their three game series against the Quebec provincial team. 

The first two games ended in 1-1 draws. Lucas Russo notched the marker for Ontario in the first game and Jason Squeo scored for Ontario in the second. 

In the third game, Team Ontario came alive defeating their hosts 4-0. Gabriel Poles led the way with a hat-trick and Jonathan Ventrella. 

The U-14 Boys are coached by Head Coach Selvin Shane Lammie and Assistant Coach: Mark Worton.

The U-14 Girls started slow but finished strong with a record of two wins and one loss. 

Team Ontario was downed by Quebec 1-0 in their first game of the weekend. 

Ontario were the aggressors in the second game putting in a strong showing with a 2-0 win. Tierra Garniss and Jasmine Broderick Bobadilla scored for Ontario. 

In the third and final game, Ontario put it all together coming away with a 4-0 win. Garniss notched two, Broderick added a single and Miya Grant-Clavijo added another. 

The U-14 Girls are led by Head Coach Brandon Frith and Assistant Coach Donna Perri.

The U-15 Boys were undefeated in their play over the weekend against Quebec.

Team Ontario drew their first two games by a score of 1-1. Jeremy Opong had Ontario’s goal in the first game and Kai Gravey scored for Ontario in the second game.

Ontario secured the win in the third game. In a 2-0 win, it was Opong and Gravey once again leading the way with a goal each.

The U-15 Boys are led by Head Coach Patrick Tobo and Assistant Coach Pedro Dias

The Ontario U-15 Girls played a mix of mini-games against provincial teams from British Columbia and Quebec.

Over their six mini-games, Ontario came away undefeated notching one win and five ties.

In their first game, Ontario tied Quebec 1-1 with the goal coming from Kalia Novak. In their second game Ontario drew B.C. 0-0 before tying them 1-1 in their third game. Siena Stambolich scored for Ontario.

In their fourth game Ontario defeated Quebec 1-0 with a goal from Olivia Smith. Ontario tied B.C. and Quebec 0-0 in the final two games.

The U-15 girls are led by Head Coach Billy Wilson and Assistant Coach Sylvia Forbes.

The Ontario U-16 Boys came away from Quebec with a pair of draws and one loss.

In their opening game, they fell to Quebec 4-1. Ontario’s lone goal would come from Daniel Bustamante.

Bustamante would lead the way for Ontario again in the second game with another goal, as Ontario drew Quebec 1-1.

In their final game of the weekend it was Bustamante again scoring for Ontario with Justin Yarde adding another as Ontario drew Quebec 2-2.

The U-16 Boys are led by Head Coach Dmitri Ovtchinnikov and Assistant Coach Darren Tilley. 

The U-16 Ontario Girls faced Quebec in a three game series over the weekend and finished with a record of one draw and two losses.

Ontario lost 2-0 to Quebec in the first game. They would draw Quebec 1-1 in the second game with the lone goal for Ontario coming from Jayde Riviere.

Ontario would lose 5-1 in their final game against Quebec as Markela Bejleri scored for Ontario.

The Ontario U-16 Girls are led by Head Coach Laura Arduini and Assistant Coach Peyvand Mossavat.
