The Ontario Soccer Association is pleased to announce that they have added two fantastic player development gurus to the Ontario Soccer Summit 2017 roster.
The first of this duo is Dr. Martin Toms. Toms is a senior lecturuer in Sport Science at the University of Birmingham in England and he has expertise in youth sport, developmental socialisation and talent development from the angles of both practical coaching and applied social-psychology. With a vast amount of experience in youth coaching, a deep focus on early engagement but late specialisation, Dr Toms is one of the weekend's must-see presenters.
"Martin's work and research in the field of sport specialization and the impacts it has on the athletic development of young people will be of great interest to the attending coaches," said Bobby Lennox, OSA Manager of Coaching Development. "His presentation will be engaging and informative on how best coaches and parents can provide the best sporting environments for their children and players to succeed and continue competing well into adulthood. As a former youth and professional coach and current university lecturer. He has a wealth of knowledge and experiences that he draws upon to present his information to the audience."
The other expert added to the Ontario Soccer Summit 2017 lineup is Dr. Dan Freigang. Freigang has an extensive background in sport psychology, self-confidence, team-building and elite sport performance. He has worked as a Sport Psychologist for U.S. Soccer Coaching Education, USA Ski, USA Hockey and has worked with numerous elite athletes.
"Dan Freigang brings a tremendous amount of sport psychology knowledge and experience to the 2017 Soccer Summit," said Gary Miller, OSA Technical Director. "He has worked for many years with some of the top U.S. athletes and coaches in downhill skiing, hockey and soccer. His sessions will be an eye-opening look at how we groom our athletes."
The host venue for the Ontario Soccer Summit 2017 is the Oshawa Civic Recreation Complex and Trent University and the event runs March 3-5, 2017.
The Oshawa Civic Centre boasts an international FIFA size 100 metre x 70 metre artificial turf playing field that can be configured into two or four fields for on-field learning.
Trent University, which is steps from the Oshawa Civic Centre, will offer an intimate setting, which is optimal for the immersive Soccer Summit learning experience.
