To celebrate the conclusion of the OPDL season, the U-14 OPDL Charity Shield Match was hosted Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

The game was played by the first team in the West Conference versus the first team in the East Conference on both genders.

The U-14 Girls, featuring the Whitby Iroqouis and Burlington Bayhawks, showcased some of the best U-14 Girls soccer Ontario has to offer.

Whitby jumped out to an early lead as they capitalized on a Burlington mistake in the box and Jahmoia Henderson jumped on the opportunity giving the Iroquois a 1-0 lead.

Whitby’s only loss on the season was to Burlington and they showed they had learned from their mistakes as they stifled the Bayhawk attack throughout the day.

Both teams would trade chances in the final 20 minutes.

Whitby’s goalie, Renee Falkner, stunned the Bayhawks when she turned away a clear chance inside the 18 that would have tied it. Whitby then marched back down the field and Iroquois’ Olivia Sacuevo made no mistake when the opportunity fell to her foot, giving them a 2-0 lead with 17 minutes remaining.

That change in momentum would open the floodgates as Whitby would score two more goals in short order. The third goal came from Kaelin Wright and the fourth goal from Vanessa Dixon.

That would be all they would need. Whitby would capture the U-14 Girls OPDL Charity Shield.
