The U-21 Women's Ontario Cup Final, presented by Room Roster, was contested by the North Mississauga Panthers and St. Catharines Jets

Mississauga defeated the LaSalle Stompers 1-0 and St. Catharines downed the Woodbridge Striikers 5-0 to reach the finals.

The first half was a bit of a chess match with both teams seeking to feel out each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Both sides sought to test one another by pressing at times but were cautious to not give up too much position and give up that critical opening goal.

The second half came to life under what wasn’t the best circumstances.

Following a North Mississauga goal kick, the Panther’s defence attempted to pass the ball back to their keeper. The ball took a strange bounce and skipped past the goalie Vanessa Fiore and into the net for the game’s opening goal, giving St. Catharines a 1-0 lead.

North Miss attempted to answer right back. Kylee Betrand tried her luck from distance and it very nearly beat the St. Catharines keeper when it hit the underside of the cross back, bounced straight down and almost into the net.

The teams would trade occasional chances the rest of the way but St. Catharines showed they were content in just keeping possession and not risking their lead.

It was a strategy that worked perfectly until the dying seconds when a momentary lapse by the Jets defense allowed North Mississauga’s Jenny Wolever to slip in behind their back line and calmly slot home the tying goal sending the finals to penalties.

The story of the goalie would once again come into play in penalties.

This time however, it was three spectacular saves by the Jets' Marilena Spagnolo that would be the difference as the Jets captured the U-21 Women's Ontario Cup 3-1 on penalties.
