The Men’s Ontario Cup Final, presented by Room Roster, featured a former national champion and a team on their first trip to the provincial final.

Gloucester Celtic, who won the Ontario Cup and Sport Chek National Club Championship in 2013, defeated London Marconi, the two time defending provincial and national champion, to earn their spot in the 2016 provincial final.

Caledon FC, who defeated Richmond Hill Madrid in the semi-final match-up, downed their opponents 10-1 in the knockout rounds early on in this year’s Ontario Cup.

Celtic dominated the possession for most of the first half but it was Caledon who had the bulk of the chances as they had two clear breaks in on net. If not for the good play of Celtic keeper Matt Gagnon, it could have easily been Caledon leading early on.

Lifted by the play of their keeper, Celtic continued to press forward and were finally rewarded for their efforts just before halftime.

Alex Decouvreur made an inspired solo run, beating several Caledon defenders down the right flank. After shaking his mark, Decouvreur curled a beautiful left footed shot into the top corner, leaving Caledon’s keeper wrong-footed.

The second half was much of the same with Gloucester controlling the play and Caledon getting sporadic chances around the Celtic net.

Caledon’s Gerald Watt had perhaps the closest chance for his squad as his 30-yard freekick rang off the woodwork – the crossbar being the only thing that kept Gloucester lead at 1-0.

In a game that saw eight yellow cards handed out, Caledon through everything forward in the final minutes seeking the tying goal including a few collisions with the Celtic keepers, which served to only further inflame tempers.

Gloucester's Joey Kewin broke away on the counter in the dying minutes. With Kewin looking like he might be in on goal alone, Caledon's Luca Condotta was forced into taking a foul and as a result earned himself a second yellow and an ejection from the game.

With Caledon down to 10-men, they were still not out as Jamie Parkes found himself in  alone on the Celtic net but for the second time that half, they found the crossbar and were denied the tying goal.

Celtic held on the rest of the way, claiming their second provincial championship and laying the path on their Journey to St. John's and the Sport Chek Club National Championships
