The Women’s Ontario Cup Final, brought to you by Room Roster, featured some familiar faces.

Scarborough GS United, the three time defending champions, were taking on the Vaughan Azzurri, who won back to back titles in the early 2000s.

It also featured three players in the Canadian national team set-up with Deanne Rose and Vital Kats in the lineup for Scarborough and Mika Richards on the roster for Vaughan.

It was Scarborough who would get things going early as Nicole Kozlova found the back of the net for the defending champs in the 7th minute.

Scarborough would double their lead when the wind caught a long Kodee Williams cross into the box and fooled the Azzurri keeper as it whipped past her to make it 2-0.

GS United kept things moving in the second half as they added to their lead off a strong strike by Vital Kats from the top of the box, who made it 3-0.

Vaughan would quickly draw one back after the goal. A cross into the box was headed past the United keeper by Kiyani Johnson, who made it 3-1. Impressively, that was the first goal Scarborough had allowed in the Ontario Cup tournament.

Their goal lifted the Azzurri as they began to put GS United on their heels with a heavy press. It paid dividends, as a United turnover found the foot of Olivia Lukasweich and her screamer made it 3-2 in the 65th minute.

Taylor Lyons nearly tied it for the Azzurri in the 78th minute when her blast found its way through a myriad of legs and beat everyone but the post.

But tat would be their last real chance as Kozlova would force a turnover in the 85th minute and seal the game for Scarborough, with her second of the match, making it 4-2. Scarborough would add a fifth in extra time, as Deanne Rose converted a simple opportunity.

In capturing their fourth straight title, Scarborough concludes the 2016 Ontario Cup undefeated and having only allowed two goals in the entire tournament – truly a dynasty in the women’s division - and will now continue their Journey to St. John's Oct. 5-10 at the Sport Chek National Club Championships.
