The U-17 Boys Tier 1 Ontario Cup Final, presented by Room Roster, featured a pair of GTA rivals in the Woodbridge Strikers and Mississauga Clarkson Comets.

Woodbridge got things going early, scoring the game’s first goal in the 8th minute. Mathew Rigato did some good work to avoid a pair of defenders and then played a long ball over the top to Tyrese Edwards, who had managed to find his way in behind the Mississauga defence. Edwards made no mistake and buried his chance to give his team a 1-0 lead.

Mississauga would answer back five minutes later. Off a free kick, the ball bounced favourably to the Comet’s Daniel Nimilovitch. Nimiovitch didn’t need more than one touch at the edge of the box as he blasted his shot top corner to level the game at 1-1.

The teams would trade chances until the 33rd minute when a Domenic Giudiciann cross deflected off a Mississauga defender and found the foot of Daniel Korkis. Korkis only needed to poke it with his toe to find the back of the net and restore Woodbridge’s lead to 2-1.

Tempers would flare throughout the second half, with numerous yellow cards being issued. Nicola Russo would see his day end when he collected a second yellow and reduced Mississauga to 10-men.

Joshua Scarafile would receive a straight red just minutes later and Woodbridge would also fall to 10-men.

Mississauga pushed for an equalizer in the dying minutes. On one of the last plays of the game, a mad scramble in the Woodbridge box nearly resulted in a goal. If not for a goal line clearance by Joshua Pedretti, Mississauga would have equalized.

The Strikers would close the door the rest of the way and capture the U-17 Tier 1 Ontario Cup.
