The U-14 Boys OPDL Charity Shield featured the Eastern division winner, Vaughan Azzurri, taking on the Western champ, West Ottawa in a one game winner-take-all.

Both teams spent the first third feeling each other out making numerous runs into the offensive zones but not really threatening.

It wasn’t until the second third when Vaughan began to open the game up with heavy pressure and were rewarded for their efforts.

Vaughan’s Joseph Stocchetti danced his way through West Ottawa midfield before playing the ball out to the wing of Luca Dametto. Dametto whipped the ball into the box and Salvatore Calabro rose to the occasion, heading the ball into the back of the net and giving Vaughan a 1-0 lead.

Vaughan increased their lead to 2-0 when they received a penalty kick and Christian Zeppieri converted his opportunity.

West Ottawa got new life after the re-start of the final third when Vaughan’s keeper Devin Pinnock drew a straight red card on a tackle inside the box.

The play resulted in penalty kick for West Ottawa and Luke Roseattani capitalized on his chance and drew his team within one to make it 2-1.

West Ottawa would push aggressively to find the equalizer as the final minutes counted down but Vaughan did a good job of closing up shop and captured the U-14 Boys OPDL Charity Shield.
