The U-15 Girls OPDL Charity Shield featured Aurora Youth SC, champions of the West conference, facing Markham SC, champions of the East in a tightly contested matchup.

Markham got things going early when Jahmoia Henderson, who had been dominant all year in front of the net, pounced on a second chance opportunity to give her team a 1-0 lead.

Aurora would have their chances in the first half but it mostly Markham pushing the offensive paces as AYSC seemed content soaking up the pressure.

When second half got underway it was more of the same from Markham who were choosing the most direct route to net as they looked for a second.

Aurora would earn a free kick around the Markham box. The dangerous shot curled around the Markham wall and seemed destined for the top corner and the equalizer but keeper Caitlyn Adam was up to the task as she came diving across to make a spectacular outstretched save and preserve her team’s 1-0 lead.

Aurora found themselves in a similar situation with 10 minutes remaining when another free kick was awarded on the edge of the box. Markela Bejleri made no mistake this time as her point perfect free kick went over the wall and into the back of the net to draw Aurora level at 1-1.

That goal would send both teams to penalties where Markham would capture the U-15 OPDL Charity Shield on kicks.
