The U-14 Girls OPDL Charity Shield was contested between two teams with recent familiarity as the Vaughan Azzurri, the Western Conference champions took on Ottawa South United, winners of the East.

Both teams had met just the week before in Inter-Conference play and the top two teams from each region battled to a 1-1 draw in their last game of the season.

Vaughan nearly opened the scoring in the first minute but a point blank save by Ottawa’s Ashley Pitcher kept it deadlocked at 0-0.

Ottawa’s Sofia Del Castillo was able to strip the Vaughan keeper on a clearance but wasn’t able to convert her opportunity on the sharp angled shot.

It would remain that way through the first two-thirds with both teams trading half chances but neither finding the final touch to convert.

With 20 minutes remaining, Ottawa finally found a way through as Jana Pledge-Dickson did good work to beat her defender and work the ball into the box. The ball would find the foot of Dalia Ibrahim who made no mistake, burying her shot in the corner and making it 1-0 Ottawa South United.

With 10 minutes, Ottawa South United looked to deliver the dagger when a Jade Taylor-Ryan shot from 25 yards out found the top corner and gave OSU a 2-0 lead.

Vaughan would answer back with just minutes remaining when Anna Karpennko rounded the keeper finished confidently to make it 2-1.

Vaughan would push for the equalizer in the dying minutes but Ottawa was able to shut the door the rest of the way capturing the U-14 Girls OPDL Charity Shield.
