Just recently The OSA’s Player Development Department held an evening to showcase the preferred training model.

Saltfleet Soccer Club and Stoney Creek Soccer Club from the Hamilton and District Soccer Association were on hand to help promote the preferred training model, while 30 coaches from soccer clubs within the district were in attendance to view the session.

Over 100, U-11 and U-12 boys and girls participated in the training session which was held at Players Paradise in Stoney Creek.

Ten stations were set up for the players to travel through for the 60 minute training session with 20 coaches facilitating the stations.

Players participated in a mixture of small sided games which ranged from target games, end zone games to 5v5 with the retreat line, plus activities such as 1v1 attacking, defending, passing and receiving as well as shooting.

The players arrived at the session and were randomly split up into 10 groups of 10, with boys and girls being placed together.

Each group started at a one of the 10 stations and rotated every five minutes.

Two coaches were responsible for each station and those coaches stayed at each station while the players rotated.

“It was an evening of fun and excitement that allowed the children to socialize and interact with other players and coaches and to enjoy the game of soccer under absolutely no pressure,” Christian Giovannini, Technical Director, Saltfleet Soccer Club said.

“The players participated in 10 different stations this evening and had the opportunity to play with and against different players of different genders. All players were kept active for the full 60 minutes and had the opportunity to play a mixture of games which created a fantastic learning environment for each individual” Carl Horton, Regional Player Development Manager, West from The Ontario Soccer Association said.

“Each individual player also had the opportunity to learn from different coaches as they traveled from station to station”

Thanks go out to Saltfleet Soccer Club and Stoney Creek Soccer Club for working with The OSA to help promote the preferred training model.
