This past weekend The Ontario Soccer Association's Player Development Department, in conjunction with the Hamilton & District Soccer Association, provided a free Grassroots Workshop to 23 coaches from the District.

Coaches of all levels, ability and experience were in attendance at the two-day workshop which takes a look at player development at the Grassroots level.

The coaches in attendance participated both in the classroom as well as on the field. This interactive workshop covered topics such as The Grassroots philosophy, Communication, Characteristics of player development, the four-corner approach, creating the best learning environment for players, the OSA Player Development Model and much more.

“Coaches participated in interactive group discussions in the classroom setting, which enabled all coaches to bring their experiences to the table as well as enabling all coaches to network with coaches from other clubs within the District,” Carl Horton, Regional Player Development Manager said.

“For the afternoon sessions the coaches were also placed into pairs to create and deliver different small sided games stations to the children who were in attendance to participate in the field sessions. The main emphasis was for the children to have fun while being active and learning from new coaches.”

Hamilton and District were thrilled to receive the workshop.

“The H&DSA would like to thank the Clubs, coaches, and players that attended and supported the Grassroots Workshop that was held this past weekend. It was great ?to see coaches and players from different Clubs interacting and learning from each other," Carmine Lancia, Technical Director for the H&DSA said. "Carl Horton from the OSA sent a great message to everyone that we must make the game about the players. Coaches learned how to create a fun learning environment for every player so they make a decision one day to play Soccer for Life.”
