What is important to know with regards to player movement into the OPDL?
The OPDL provides the talented player with a holistic support system in order to reach his/her full potential. Hence, players that are not registered with an OPDL roster are encouraged to move into the OPDL environment for best development opportunities where access to the OPDL environment is feasible.
Players that decide not to become part of OPDL, where OPDL opportunities exist, understand that their individual development of reaching their personal best could be reduced without a holistic support system geared towards high-performance build around the athlete.
In order to progress within the new Talented Pathway, it is important to understand that the primary talent detection and talent identification will happen within the OPDL and the Talent Development Centres.
As opportunities for players outside the OPDL currently exist to be detected and identified through other player screening events like ‘Talent on Location Days’, these external opportunities will cease in 2016 as the OPDL becomes the sole talent detection and identification environment besides the remote area of ‘Mid-North’ (Thunder Bay, Sault Ste Marie, Sudbury, North Bay). Talent on Location events will continue in the area where geographical challenges prevent players from moving to OPDL organizations.
Once players are within OPDL organizations, there is no player movement from Mar. 1 until Nov. 30, unless exceptional circumstances exist that are approved by the OPDL. The transfer window for players to move into the OPDL is Dec. 1 until Mar. 1 each year.
