Each week, Mirco Schroff, the OSA Talented Pathway Technical Director, tackles one issue and how it relates to OPDL operations. This week, Schroff has delivered an OPDL Key Message on Player Progress Reports.

What is a Player Progress Report?
All OPDL players are to receive at least two written feedback reports per season from their respective head coach. The feedback includes soccer-specific competencies and high-performance competencies that are closely linked to the game and the individual development of each player.

The four-corner approach is designed to highlight key strengths of an individual and to identify key development areas, which, if addressed accordingly, should lead to a more competent player profile over time. The objective for each player is to individually progress from ‘developing’ areas to ‘competent’ and ‘proficient’ areas.

Each season, the OPDL curriculum emphasises age-specific technical-tactical, social-emotional, psychological and physical elements that support a systematic and holistic development process. The overall goal for an individual player is to progress in all aspects of the game in order to meet the demands of category benchmarks within each age group.

Most advanced players are able to progress within the Talented Pathway to be invited into Talent Development Centres, the REX program (for females) and national camps and projects (for males) through the OSA and CSA.

The new approach of the talented pathway ensures a direct correlation between a player’s consistent performance (OPDL Game Days) and their day-to-day training routine and progress (OPDL Player Progress Reports). This allows for a detailed, holistic and individualized feedback for each player involved in talented pathway programming.
