Ontario claimed five gold medals and two silvers on the final day of the Sport Chek National Club Championships.

One of the strongest performances from the province in recent memory was highlighted by the fact that on the last day only one final did not include a team from Ontario.

Challenge Trophy

Ontario’s London Marconi claimed the Challenge Trophy at the Sport Chek National Club Championships, after defeating Alberta’s Calgary Callies 0:0 (4-2 on kicks.) The route to the final was a difficult one for both teams, who, come the whistle, were playing their fifth match in six days. However, despite the inevitable fatigue, both teams clearly wanted the championship — fighting for every ball and delivering tough tackles.

After a closely contested gold medal match and with the score tied 0-0 heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation central defender Maya Pascal would provide the heroics for The North Mississauga Panthers of Ontario as she converted the game winning goal from a corner kick in the 70th minute. Minutes after Pascal put her side in the lead, teammate Julia Stampatori would find an insurance goal for the Ontario side as they captured the Sport Chek National Club Championships U-18 Cup title with a 2-0 victory over the Edmonton Strikers from Alberta.

Weather conditions had improved immensely on the final day of the 2014 Sport Chek National Club Championships U-16 Boys Cup competition. With the skies breaking overnight and the sun coming out in the morning, it made for some pretty perfect playing conditions when the championship game kicked-off. The only item that the West Toronto Cobras, from Ontario, and the Coquitlam Metro-Ford SC, from British Columbia, would have to worry about is a cool wind, and each other. West Toronto came out strong and almost netted the first goal of the match in the second minute when they got a ball behind the keeper but center back Lucas McIlveen was there with the impressive goal line stand.

Boys U-14 Cup

Many neutrals, before this game, were looking forward to the match-up between Ontario’s powerful North London Elite front line and the strong British Columbia Coastal FC’s defence, and, in the end, it was London’s muscular Matthew Paquette who won the key battle, scoring both his team’s goals to edge a tight U-14 Boys championship final.
