The lone Canadian at the FIFA World Cup Brazil will get his second start today when he will calls one of the biggest games of the tournament to date.

Joe Fletcher, who hails from St. Catharines, has been appointed as Assistant Referee 2 in the key Group B match-up between Spain and Chile. He will again be paired with Head Referee – Mark Geiger from the USA, Assistant Referee 1 – Mark Sean Hurd from the USA and Fourth Official – Alireza Faghani from Iran.

Fletcher and his crew earned high praise this week from other officials.

The remainder of Fletcher’s games have not yet been announced. FIFA only tells officials a few days before their match, which game they will call.

But if Fletcher’s work in the first game is any indication, he is sure to see plenty more work as the World Cup goes on.
