Unionville-Milliken Soccer Club kicked off a pair of fantastic events over the weekend.

At the first, UMSC held their OPDL home opener at Bill Crothers SS on May 30. OSA president Ron Smale was in attending to take part in the opening ceremonies and presented the ceremonial first ball. Players and officials were then introduced and marched out for the national anthem.

UMSC board members including President Richard Herold and VP of Competitive Cecile Corso, UMSC technical directors, technical staff and volunteers looked on at the hard work they'd done to make this historic day run smoothly for the club.

The second event, was the UMSC Jersey Day. This event, insprired by the OSA's Player Development Manager Bobby Lennox and his Grassroots survey on what is important to players, featured the UMSC Lil' Strikers Grassroots program and was a day focused on introducing young players to the game and developing their love for all things soccer.

Smale was also in attendance on this day with City of Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti in attendance as well to help usher in the new program. Over 800 people were in attendance for the launch of the 3-8 year old Lil Striker program.
