In the second final of the day at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre, Toronto Cherry Beach SC claimed the U14 Girls Indoor Cup championship, defeating Glen Shields Juventus FC in a dramatic penalty shootout after a hard‑fought draw in regulation.
Glen Shields Juventus FC wasted no time making an impact. Just 90 seconds into the match, Brielle Russell met a perfectly timed cross in front of goal and finished calmly into the bottom right corner, giving Glen Shields an early 1–0 lead.
Toronto Cherry Beach SC responded quickly. In the second minute, they registered their first shot on target, though it was comfortably handled by Glen Shields goalkeeper Ana Maksymiak. Cherry Beach followed with another effort moments later, but once again Maksymiak was equal to the task.
Cherry Beach continued to look dangerous on the break. In the fourth minute, Sofia Bovell Di Carlo found space on a strong run but sent her shot just wide of the right post. While Cherry Beach was able to create opportunities early, they struggled to find the finishing touch in the final third.
At the other end, Glen Shields Juventus FC applied steady offensive pressure, testing the Cherry Beach defence, which remained organized and denied clear scoring chances. In the 10 minute, Glen Shields nearly doubled their lead off a corner kick, but the effort was struck directly at Cherry Beach goalkeeper Ava Ghandeur, who made a routine save.
Glen Shields maintained their attacking intent with several shots on target, though most were straight at the keeper. Russell looked to add a second in the 17 minute but sent her attempt high. A minute later, she made no mistake, finishing her chance to complete a brace and extend Glen Shields’ lead to 2–0.
With just under five minutes remaining in the first half, Toronto Cherry Beach SC found a crucial breakthrough. Reading a pass back from the Glen Shields defence, Lovell Di Carlo anticipated the play, intercepted the ball, and finished to cut the deficit to 2–1 heading into halftime.
The second half opened with renewed energy from Cherry Beach. Aaliyah Milne broke toward goal early and got a shot on target, but the Glen Shields Juventus FC keeper was able to make the save. Milne saw plenty of the ball in the opening stages of the half, though Glen Shields Juventus FC’s defence continued to limit her chances in the final third.
Glen Shields Juventus FC found fewer opportunities going forward early in the second half, managing only a shot directly at the keeper. The match shifted dramatically in the 30 minute when Glen Shields Juventus FC goalkeeper was shown a red card, forcing them to continue a player down and giving Cherry Beach a numerical advantage.
Toronto Cherry Beach SC seized control of possession, pressing relentlessly in search of an equalizer. Despite being short-handed, Glen Shields Juventus FC showed resilience, staying compact and battling defensively to protect their lead. In the 34 minute, Tessa Warren fired a shot on target, but substitute goalkeeper Zoey Ravesi made the save to keep Glen Shields Juventus FC in front.
The pressure eventually told. In the 37 minute, Ayla Hanna carried the ball from deep in Cherry Beach territory, weaving past defenders before striking a low shot into the bottom left corner to tie the match at 2–2.
The final minutes featured end‑to‑end action as both sides pushed for a winner. Milne had several late attempts to settle the match for Cherry Beach, but none found the net, sending the final to a penalty shootout.
Toronto Cherry Beach SC held their nerve from the spot, converting their penalties to secure the shootout victory and capture the U14 Girls Indoor Cup title in a thrilling conclusion to the final.
