As 2025 comes to an end, Ontario Soccer reflects on a year defined by growth, innovation, and unforgettable moments across our soccer community. From thrilling provincial tournaments and grassroots celebrations to the launch of new initiatives like Gen26 and the MySoccer App, the past 12 months have showcased the strength and passion of Ontario’s game.
This year also saw our Girls’ team capture gold at the Ontario Summer Games and the introduction of Striker, our energetic mascot who brought excitement to events and initiatives across the province.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our partners – BMO, Circle K, Toronto FC, Canadian Premier League (CPL), Dairy Farmers of Ontario, O’Neills Sportswear, and Zanchin Automotive Group – whose unwavering support made these achievements possible.

Co-hosted by the Niagara Soccer Association and presented by O’Neills Sportswear and Respect in Sport, this year’s Summit—held February 28 to March 2 in the scenic Niagara region—embraced the theme “Leadership and Legacy.” Over 700 delegates came together for inspiring educational sessions and on-field demonstrations that united all corners of the soccer community.
Keynote speakers included Michael “Pinball” Clemons, whose infectious energy set the tone, Casey Stoney, who shared a deeply personal journey, and Mike Chu, who engaged attendees with interactive sessions—fueling the summit’s blend of inspiration and practical insight. Additionally, Canada’s men’s national team head coach Jesse Marsch delivered packed sessions on “Canada’s New DNA,” sparking meaningful conversations about the future of Canadian soccer.
The Summit also featured in-depth discussions on diversity, equity and inclusion, player and match official development, and a forward-thinking panel titled “2026 – Are We Ready?” exploring FIFA World Cup opportunities on home soil.
This year, Ontario Soccer proudly introduced MySoccer Powered by BMO—a game-changing media platform designed to elevate the soccer experience across the province by connecting players, coaches, referees, and fans, and engaging the soccer community like never before.
Developed in partnership with BMO and Sportswik, this initiative marks a significant step toward building a connected soccer community and preparing for the excitement of 2026. The pilot rollout with OPDL and OSL set the stage for full implementation next year, reinforcing our commitment to innovation and accessibility in the game we love.

Circle K Celebration Grant Festivals made a remarkable impact in 2025, uniting communities and fostering a love for the game at the grassroots level. This year, the festivals welcomed an incredible 29,558 participants and drew a total of 67,612 attendees—including coaches, parents, and players—creating unforgettable experiences across Ontario.
Circle K delivered a series of dynamic initiatives, including high-energy 2v2 Festivals, inclusive All-Abilities Festivals, and the provision of 50 Celebration Festival Grants to deserving grassroots clubs.

At the 2025 PDP Championships—held in Ontario for the first time at Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre and Vaughan Grove Sports Park—OPDL teams delivered an exceptional performance. Over five days of elite competition against Canada’s best, Ontario’s youth squads claimed:
The U17 Girls final featured an all-OPDL showdown, with Pickering FC edging Hamilton United 1–0. In the U17 Boys, Woodbridge SC topped Vaughan SC Azzurri 2–0. Woodbridge SC also went undefeated in U15 Boys to claim gold.
The 2025 MilkUP Ontario Cup continued its tradition of showcasing Ontario’s top competitive soccer talent. Teams from across the province delivered thrilling performances and unforgettable moments throughout the tournament.

The 2025 Gary Miller Charity Shield was a successful two-day tournament, showcasing the very best of OPDL talent while making a meaningful impact off the field. This year’s event raised over $20,000 for charitable causes.
Half of the funds will support the SickKids Foundation, while the remaining 50% will go to charities chosen by the winning teams, including Sebastian’s Superheroes, Childhood Cancer Canada, Ronald McDonald House Toronto, and Ronald McDonald House Hamilton.

Ontario’s U-17 Girls made history this summer, capturing gold in a hard-fought 1–0 win over Quebec in the Women’s Soccer Final.
After an early goal from Chiamaka Omeze, the team showcased incredible composure and defensive strength, holding off a determined Quebec side for the remainder of the game.
The road to gold wasn’t easy—Ontario battled through intense competition, including a nail-biting semifinal that went to penalties. This triumph not only crowned Ontario as champions but also contributed to the province surpassing Quebec in the overall medal standings, reinforcing Ontario’s dominance on the national stage.
This year’s Provincial Xcel athletes displayed their exceptional skills and dedication in an intense series versus Quebec, hosted in Laval, Quebec at the Bois-de-Boulogne Sports Complex. Ontario’s U15 and U17 squads impressed at the Provincial Xcel Showcase in Québec, posting an 8–3–1 record.

This year, Vaughan SC OPDL dominated the Gatorade 5v5 stage! Both the Girls 2009 and Boys 2009 squads claimed the top spot, showcasing skill, teamwork, and determination. Congratulations to these talented teams on an incredible achievement!
This year, Ontario Soccer proudly welcomed over 30 new Quality Soccer Providers (QSP) under Canada Soccer’s National Youth Club Licensing Program. These clubs have committed to delivering safe, fun, accessible, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate soccer experiences for youth across the province. Learn more here.
Ontario Soccer received $990,847 from the Ontario government to replace the artificial turf at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre in Vaughan. This investment ensures a safe, durable, and accessible facility for thousands of players, reinforcing Ontario Soccer’s commitment to grassroots growth.
Looking ahead to 2026, upgraded facilities like this will play a key role in supporting player development and community engagement.
Ontario Soccer recently celebrated 21 outstanding individuals and clubs at its 2025 Centre Circle Awards. The event, held during the Annual Members Meeting, honoured leaders in coaching, officiating, volunteering, and administration across the province. Read more here.
Once again, Toronto FC hosted unforgettable OPDL and Match Official Celebration Nights, providing a VIP soccer experience to so many members of the Ontario Soccer community. Ontario’s Match Officials embraced the opportunity to grow, connect, and perform on a national stage at the Canada Summer Games.
In 2025, Ontario Soccer and BMO launched GeneratiON26, a three-year campaign designed to empower communities and grow the game ahead of the FIFA World Cup. Kicking off at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre, the initiative introduced BMO Grassroots Festivals, district events, volunteer development programs, and the MySoccer App—all aimed at improving accessibility and strengthening grassroots soccer.
With Canada drawn into Group B for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, excitement is building across the province. This global stage perfectly complements GeneratiON26’s mission to unite players, volunteers, and fans through more festivals, resources, and programs that celebrate soccer as a central part of Ontario’s cultural fabric.
Looking ahead to 2026, Ontario Soccer is ready to harness World Cup momentum to inspire the next generation.
