Vaughan's Spirited Comeback fall's just short as they manage to equalize late in the match, forcing a dramatic penalty shootout

The final match of the 2025 Gary Miller Charity Shield, played at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre was a thrilling showcase of tenacity and determination. The game ended 2 (4)–2 (3) in favour of London TFC, but both teams deserve recognition for their outstanding performances and relentless effort throughout the contest.

Both teams created decent chances in the opening 10 minutes, but it was London TFC who broke the deadlock in the 16th minute. A slick one-two passing sequence set up No.13 Ivy Caskanette, who calmly finished one-on-one with the Vaughan goalkeeper to give her team the lead.

In the 30th minute with London TFC pressing for there second, Rylie Anselmini with a one time volley outside the boxt left the Vaughan goalkeeper frozen, doubling the advantage for London TFC.

Overall, offensively it was all London TFC in the opening half as Vaughan struggled to break the London TFC midfield, not being clinical enough on the final pass as London headed into the break up 2-0.

As the second half kicked off, Vaughan looked to turn the tide, pressing higher and testing the London defence, determined to find an equalizer and shift the game in their favour.

Their efforts paid off in the 49th minute, when a clever flick in the box found No. 35 Simona Roti, who calmly fired a precise shot past London goalkeeper Kherington Wehring, cutting the deficit in half and reigniting Vaughan’s hopes for a comeback.

Despite both teams trading half-chances, it was Alixandra Casullo who ultimately took advantage for Vaughan with limited time remaining. With composure and precision, she delivered a clean strike in the 79th minute, levelling the score and reigniting her team's momentum. The 90 minutes weren't enough as the game would ultimately be decided in penalties.

Vaughan had the early advantage in penalties, but two straight missed penalties secured the London TFC victory. The comeback fell short for Vaughan, but they should be proud of an incredible performance to claw back into the match.
